Den amerikanske fortelleren, forfatteren og pedagogen Laura Simms    —————-Fortellerscenen (www.fortellerscenen.no) har den glede å kunne invitere til forestilling og kurs med Laura Simms 30. og 31. Januar. Den New York baserte fortelleren Laura Simms er en av USAs mest anerkjente fortellere. Hun startet sin karriere i 1968 og var blant annet student av forskeren Joseph Campbell. I sine forestillinger lager hun en unik kombinasjon av jeg – fortellinger og tradisjonelle fortellinger. For Laura Simms er det å fortelle mer enn å underholde, hun bruker fortellingen aktivt i humanitært arbeid. I 1999 vant hun “Sesame Street Sunny Days Award” for sitt arbeid for barn. Hun har gitt flere forteller bøker og har vært en aktiv skribent og redaktør i Parabola Magazine siden 1996. I den senere tid har Simms deltatt i en rekke medier på grunn av sin adoptivsønn Ishmael Beah som nylig utga sin egen bok om livet som barnesoldat.   ———————-For tiden er hun aktiv i følgene prosjekter: Laura founded and directs the Gaindeh Projec t, an international initiative using storytelling, creativity, meditation and reconciliation for individuals and communities. In her role as director of Gaindeh Projects, Laura worked in Romania to teach storytelling skills to orphans and gypsy mothers and directs a collaborative project, The Lion’s Roar: A Community and Compassion Initiative. The Lion’s Roar works to rebuild the Buhusi Zoo and, in turn, renew a devastated community in Moldavia. She is presently working with Search for Common Ground’s Gillian Huebner in Washington, DC, on the LIFEFORCE PROJECT; and she is the codirector for reunion with Mariatu Kumara (Canada’s Child Ambassador for UNICEF) of DISARMED FOR PEACE: The Reunion and Susan McClelland (producing the documenary). Kurset fokuserer på bruk av fortelling med mennesker/ungdom i utsatte situasjoner. Laura Simms skriver om kurset: MAKING MONSTERS: TRANSFORMING AGGRESSION INTO COMPASSION We will engage in a creative process of creating a personal and imaginative story that explores the source of power and how we can work with youth and communities in conflict in order to generate peaceful abiding. Please be ready for physical work, as well as writing and story sharing. The day will combine story making, exploration of tools for working with conflict , intolerance a and bullying. we wil have ample time for discussion and review of what we are doing. Laura’s work is based on her book BECOMING THE WORLD, with new exercises designed through work in Romania and with youth in crisis. Kurs dato: 31.
