The story behind the texture

On the countryside I have an uncle who collects tractors. Of course – having this ”hobby” is also creating the need for diesel, gas, oil or whatever. The tractors usually only stands there surrounded by barrels etc. This does not create a romantic view on the farm!!!! The tractors are getting older and the rust is eating on them.

Going to the countryside on holiday has usually – then – evoked rather non – aesthetic assosiactions. But something has changed – maybe it is my experiences in Second life, maybe it my addiction to flickr – OR maybe – finally – that I have been slowly influenced by working at the department of FINE ART, DESIGN and Drama at HiO.  Anyway – this summer I actually liked the sight of the rust – the colours it had created, the evolution – still dead but still living.

I used my camera often and productively. Now the pictures of my uncles rust has turned into to useful textures in pictures.

An exaample follows

One of the photos goes through photoshop:

I blend those two pictures:

And use it as a texture in a picture taken in second life:

The picture is a part of a developing serie – storytelling cards for children.

Finally it all has blended into another tool for experience and knowledge.

BTW thanks to Helle Stølevik for the latest tip in photoshop.
